Student Rewards Freebie

The classroom rewards on Pinterest have caught my eye and I just had to make my own!  I decided to use rewards for students each time they earn 10 stars on their incentive chart.  If you would like a FREE copy of the students reward posters so students can see what they are aiming for click on the photo.

I created smaller matching 'tickets' for the students to receive after they earn and choose their reward.  To save on ink ( I use WAY too much! ) I made them in black and white.  They look great printed on colored paper.  If you would like a FREE copy click on the photo.

If you print these and use them I would love for you to leave a comment and tell me how you like them!  Enjoy!

Apple Tree Place Value Activity

My students always love mystery pictures on the hundreds chart so I decided to create a few with a bit of a 'twist' to them.  I added a step that the students need to complete before they can color the square.  For example, before students can color 18 red they need to solve

1 ten 8 ones ____

After they solve then they can color.  I love having students work with these activities during times when I need them to be focused and on-task while I do individual assessing.  I usually photocopy the 2 student pages onto an 11" by 17" paper.  You can find my various mystery pictures here.

Here is a peek at my Tens and Ones Place Value Apple Tree Mystery Picture.

Space Scrambled Sentences

Are your students fascinated by the pictures they are seeing on the news being sent from Mars?   I haven't started back to school yet, but when I do I plan to show them many of the photos and spend some time doing a space theme in September.  I have a ready to use reading / printing activity on TPT that I plan to use when we are talking about space.
There is a non-fiction sentence about each planet that students need to unscramble and print.  Here is an example.
You can get a copy of this unit here.
I like to give away a copy of each unit I post about.  So, the first person to follow my blog and leave a comment (with your email) on this post will get a copy :)

Don'y forget about the estimation giveaway I have going on.  See that post here.

Estimation Throughout the Year (Giveaway)

I wanted to create an estimation station that will keep my students engaged all year.  When I began creating this unit I thought that I would have 5 or 6 different mini-posters but I ended up with 17 !  Each one also comes with coordinating ballots for students to record their estimates.  For fun I looked at my setting to see how many minutes hours I spent creating and was astonished by the number !  I just get so carried away when I create !
I posted my unit earlier today on my TPT store and you can find it here.  I would love to give one of these away so I am going to put the first 5 names in a hat and choose one to receive this unit for FREE.  I think I'll get my hubby to draw the name since he was soooo patient with the time I spent on the computer creating it!  If you would like a chance to win, follow my blog and reply to this post (with your email).  As soon as I have 5 names I'll choose one !

Congratulations Melissa! I hope you enjoy your unit!  Thank you everyone for visiting my blog!

Student Number Lines

It's almost time for me to head back to school.  Monday I am able to get into my classroom to start getting organized.  So, I guess this is my last weekend of summer!  Where did it go anyway???
Like all of you even though I'm on vacation I am thinking about what I need.
My student number lines were getting pretty tattered so I decided to make new ones.  They are used daily in my classroom and are a very important part of my math program.  If you would like a copy you can find them here at my TPT store.
The set includes 7 different polka dot backgrounds.  Here is an example of one of them.
As always, the first person, first 2 people to follow my blog and leave a comment (with your email) will get these for FREE!

Polka Dot Math (Numbers 0-10)

My math wall was in need of new ten frames and number words.  Keeping with my polka dot theme I created a set of them and posted them on TPT.  I also included a polka dot pennant that could be used as a title for a math wall.  I've already printed one set, but I think I'll print 2 copies of these and use them as flash cards, for matching and all sorts of ideas!
For each of the numbers 0-10 you get a number, number word and ten frame.  You can find my unit here on TPT.
As always, the first person to follow my blog and leave a comment (with your email) will get this unit for FREE!

Bowling Math Work Station

I posted a new math work station on TPT just in time for the big Back to School Sale that starts tomorrow in a few hours.   I'm as excited as I get on the night before Christmas. I have quite a few units that I will be purchasing tomorrow!  What about you? I will be offering 20% off all my products and TPT will offer an addition 10% for a total of 28%.  Be sure to use code BTS12 on checkout.

To play this game students choose a gameboard and then take turns choosing 2 cards.  If the cards 'make 10' they get to place a 10 card on their gameboard.  The next time they 'make 10' they would place a 20 card on their gameboard.  Play continues until a player gets to 100.  An I Can... card is included to increase student independence.
Here's a peek at what you get.  Just print and it's ready to go!
You can find this work station here at my TPT store.

I Love Scaredy Squirrel!

My students simply cannot get enough of Scaredy Squirrel, by Melanie Watt each fall.  I created this unit to be used after reading the story.  If you haven't read the Scaredy Squirrel books yet what are you waiting for?  You can also find this story on Tumblebooks.
Here's a peek into what is available in this unit ~
Click here to find it at my TPT store.

I have also created a matching writing and craftivity pack.  It's perfect for Back to School and makes a great bulletin board display.

First Day Jitters Blog Hop

I decided to link up with my first ever blog hop. (Here's hoping I do it right!!) The first day of school is still 4 weeks away for me, but I am already getting into the swing of things. Even though I am starting my 21st year of teaching this year I still get super-excited about the first day of school. I never sleep the night before! This year my oldest child is a senior on high school! Just the thought makes me extra jittery this year! Have a wonderful back to school everyone! I know that I will always have those first day jitters!

Word Wall Shopping

I created this word work activity to get my students thinking about and working with the words on the word wall.  This will work with ANY WORD on ANY WORD WALL!!

To use this activity students choose a word and place it on the shopping cart, then using the 'price list' students determine the cost of the word.  There are 2 different recording options available.  As an added bonus students are doing math at the same time!  Be sure to check this activity out HERE at my TPT store.

Happy word wall shopping!

The first 2 people who follow my blog and leave a comment (with your email) will get this activity for free :)

Movie Night Make 10 Math Station

Early in the year I spend lots of time trying to get my students to mentally 'Make 10'.  This early addition skill helps them with the other number outcomes that follow throughout the year.  Here is a close-up of one of my ready to use math work stations that are available at my TPT store
How to play ~ Each player chooses one of the four game boards and all movie tickets are turned upside down.  On their turn each player chooses 2 tickets.  If the tickets 'Make 10' then they place the tickets on one of the movie strips on their game board.  The first player to fill their game board wins!  Sometimes I want my students to complete a recording sheet, but other times I do not.  For this reason I have included 2 different "I Can..." cards with this activity.

Just playing this game makes me want some movie popcorn :)

Math Work Station Management

I thought I would share my math work station management system with you. If you like polka dots then you'll love this! Each student has a nametag which I put to the left of my pocket chart with their partner's name.  I then use the small number signs so student know where to go at each rotation.
