Yo Ho Ho! Pirate Doubles

Is tomorrow really Monday?  The weekends go by way too fast!  I thought I would write a post before I get into the Sunday night routines.

Have you seen my Pirate Doubles math work station on my TPT store?  My kiddos love pirates!

I have students work in pairs but included 4 playing cards just in case your groups are a little larger.  To play this game students roll one die, double the number and cover the number on their playing card.  I have included an I can... card to help build student independence.

I would love to give away a copy of my YoHoHo Pirate Doubles math work station to the first 2 followers who leave a comment. Don't forget your email !

"I Spy" Halloween and Huge Giveaway

Have you ever met a student who didn't like Halloween, I spy, and magnifying glasses?  I haven't, so I created this word work activity that combines all 3 to be used in October as we get closer to Halloween.  Here's a picture of my daughter searching for Halloween words.
I have printed teeny tiny Halloween words that are easy to read with the use of a magnifying glass. Tthere are 4 different pages and a choice of 2 recording sheets.  One has students record the words from only one picture and the second has them search through all four.  I included an answer key so that you won't need to search through to find the words.  For an extra challenge you could have them write them in alphabetical order.
You can find this activity here at my TPT store.  I'll send this activity to the first 2 followers who leave a comment on this post. Don't forget your email so I can send it to you !

While you're here click on the picture below to hear over to Olivia's blog at Liv to Teach.  She is celebrating 500 followers at her TPT store by having a huge giveaway.  You can win 42 items including your choice of item from my TPT store ! You don't want to miss this one !
There is also a great link-up under way called Show and Tell Wednesdays over at Darling Little Learners.  You should check it out on Wednesdays for great ideas!

Halloween Math Work Stations

I planned to blog about my Halloween Math Work Stations when October rolled around, but since people are buying the unit from my TPT store I realized that as teachers we are planners and of course we are getting organized for October !  So, here they are !

My Halloween work stations focus on numbers to 30 with a little patterning, symmetry and graphing thrown in.
Check out all that is included:
I included an "I can..." card with each activity so all you need to do is print, (laminate for years of use) and put them in your math tubs !  You can find this unit here at my TPT store.

I would love to give one of these units away to one of my followers.  I will randomly choose one of the first five followers who leave a comment on this post.  Don't forget your email so I can send it to you !

Thank you so much to everyone who commented !  I am thrilled that you are all interested in my products ! I used a random generator to come up with a winner.

Halloween Tens and Ones Mystery Picture

NOTE:  This product has been updated - please visit HERE

I LOVE mystery pictures and my students do too.  However, I also like for my students to do a little 'work' before they begin coloring on the hundreds chart.  This Halloween Mystery Picture requires students to solve the numbers then color.  For example,

3 tens 4 ones _____
Students need to figure out 34 before they find 34 on the hundreds chart.  They won't even realize they are working on place value.  We teachers are so sneaky !
I often copy the 2 student pages on an 11 by 17 paper so the students have them side by side.  Another option is to have them do all the solving first then give them the hundreds chart to color.  This is a perfect quiet activity for students as you get closer to Halloween.  You can find it here at my TPT store.
Since you know how much I love to share my products I will send this to the first 2 people who follow my blog and leave a comment (with your email) on this post.

Build a Scarecrow and Giveaways

Take a peek at my newest 'Make 10' activity that I have added to my TPT store.
In my opinion students can never have enough practice at 'making 10'.  To play this game students begin with a playing mat that has a scarecrow pole on it.  Taking turns they turn over two ten frame cards.  If the cards 'make 10' then they add a piece to their scarecrow.  The first to build their scarecrow wins!  I have included an I can... card so your work station is ready to go!  To change things up a bit print extra copies of the pumpkin ten frame cards and you have an instant ten frame matching game !  You can find this station here at my TPT store.

Would you like a copy of this math work station?  I would love to give away a copy to the first 2 people who are followers of my blog and leave a comment on this post.  Don't forget your email so I can send it to you!

Stuck together like peanut butter and jelly

Compound words are words stuck together like a peanut butter and jam sandwich!  That's the theme of my compound words activity.

There are so many ways to use this activity:
  • pass out one card to each student and have them find their 'mate'
  • work together and place them in a pocket chart
  • individually or in a small group match the compound words
  • as a matching game
  • if you have more ideas, leave a comment !
I have included a recording sheet and a word search of the included compound words.
You can find this activity at my TPT store. Click on the picture to head on over.

I would love to offer this product to the first 2 followers who leave a comment on this post.  Don't forget to leave your email!

Also, don't forget to head on over to Peacocks and Penguins to enter the fabulous giveaway!!  There are great prizes to win!

Giveaway & Math Station Freebie

You have got to check out the great giveaway that Heather is having over at Peacocks and Penguins!  She is running a huge giveaway with 2 chances to win!  Make sure that you head on over to enter.  One of the prizes is a product of your choice from my TPT store !  Good luck !!!

On another note, I was trying to think of an easy math work station to include in my first rotation of stations this week that had students work on quickly identifying dot arrangements.  This is what I came up with -
Students roll a die and place a counter in the correct column.  Play continues until one column reaches the top.    I have also included an I can... card.  I created it in black and white then copied onto cardstock and it was ready to go !
If you would like a copy click on the picture.  Please leave me a comment if you use this activity.  Enjoy !

Numbers to 30 (Greatest Number)

I feel like I should have a t-shirt that says "I survived the first week!"  Whew!  I really have a wonderful group of firsties, but it sure takes awhile to get used to the back to school routines!
One of the first work stations I am going to put into my math tubs focuses on numbers to 30.  I like for the students to gain a really quick sense of numbers to 30.
Students work in pairs (or a group up to 4) and turn over numbers at the same time.  The players then need to determine who has the greatest number.  That player gets to keep their number on their soccer net gameboard.  Play continues until all numbers have 'scored'.  The player with the most 'goals' at the end of the game wins!  You can find this work station here at my TPT store.  I will give this work station for FREE to the first 2 people who follow my blog and leave a comment on this post. (Don't forget your email!)
