Lucky Four Leaf Clovers

It's almost here!!  Only 3 more days!  Be sure to come back on Sunday to find out how you can earn a chance to win TPT Gold!!

Are you feeling lucky?  Would you like to challenge your students?  I'm planning to get my students adding some four leaf clovers.
This is a simple matching activity with a not so simple task.  Students need to add four addends from a four leaf clover and match it to the card with the sum.  There is a recording sheet included and an I can... card to build student independence.

This math station is available at my TPT store.

I'll send a copy to the first 2 followers who leave a comment on this post  - don't forget your email!

Ice Cream Persuasive Writing

I recently picked up a copy of a persuasive writing activity by Ms. Smarty Pants at TPT that I need to share with you.

She has it laid out step by step so there is very little prep to do and you're ready to go.  To make it even easier, she and I have the same favorite flavor of ice cream so I could copy her example without even needing to think of my own reasons :-)
I completed this activity over a couple of days.  We began by reading an ice cream story and then brainstorming a list if our favorite flavors (there are some strange flavors out there, I wish I snapped a picture of our list for you!).  Using the ice cream cone templates and some pastels they made some yummy looking creations!  I recorded my opinion statement and then they printed theirs.  We also did shared writing of my reasons before they worked on theirs.

Here are a couple students samples from my students.

Warning: you'll want ice cream when you're done reading !

You can read more about the activity by heading over to Ms. Smarty Pants.  While you're there please check out Samantha's post about Miracle.

If you're planning on doing some ice cream writing you might like a copy of my ice cream place value mystery picture.  It's available at my TPT store by clicking onthe picture, but I'll send a copy to the first 2 people who comment on this post.  Don't forget your email.

A Miracle for Miracle

I recently heard a story that absolutely touched my heart ...

A blogger friend of mine has a student at her school who can really use our thoughts and prayers.

Meet Miracle ...
...a first grader who has recently been diagnosed with Leukemia.   In addition, the sweetheart struggles with the challenges of Cerebral Palsy.  Samantha over at Ms. Smarty Pants has come up with an amazing way for all of us to financially help her family.  She has gathered together 31 resources and they can be yours for a $25 donation.
Please head on over to Samantha's blog to read more.
I have made my donation and hope that you'll consider making one too.

Amazing Giveaway at Chalk One Up for the Teacher

My friend Cyndie over at Chalk One Up for the Teacher is having an amazing giveaway that you need to check out!  There are some wonderful prizes that some lucky people are going to win!

One of the prizes ( and there are lots) is $25 worth of products (of your choice!) from Cyndie's TPT store.  With that said I need to make a suggestion - just in case you win! If you don't win you need to check it out anyway!
Those of you who have been here before know that I love math stations and she has this wonderful unit with the cutest graphics :)
I've got them printed, laminated and ready to go to use with my own Easter math stations (coming soon).

Here are a couple of my faves ...

"Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Basket" - students need to sort addition sentences.  I love this because the sums are exactly what we are working on now.

"Bunny Hops Plus 10" - another skill that we are working on now.  Students spin the spinner and play the station like bingo.  I have a clear spinner at school, but a paper clip and pencil will also work.
This unit also includes a Bunny Glyph that I plan to use in a few weeks.  I can't wait to see how they turn out

So, what are you waiting for?  Head on over and enter this giveaway.  While you're there you'll want to follow her blog.  If you win please come back and tell me all about your new products :)

Good Luck!!!!

One of the first units I posted at my TPT store was Bunny Trouble.  Since then I have learned so much that I thought it was time for a little makeover.  So (drum roll.....) here is a peek at the new and improved version:

If you do not have a copy of this book you need to pick up a copy.

You can find this unit at my TPT store but I'll send a copy to the first 2 followers who leave a comment on this post.  Don't forget your email :)

Love of Teaching Blog Hop Day 11

Welcome to Day 11 of For the Love of Teaching Freebie Blog Hop.  The hop started on the first of February with Ms. Smarty Pants and has hopped along to some A-mazing teacher blogs and landed here.  You have hopped here from Mel's Frog Spot blog and she just so happens to be the creator of this wonderful button :)  Did you know she has a teaching blog and a graphics blog??
I've been collecting the Valentine freebies during the hop too so I know that you are collecting some wonderful activities.  If you missed any you can find all the links at the bottom of this post.
For my freebie I have created an alphabetical order activity for you to use as a word work station.

Students choose one of the cards and print the words in ABC order on the recording sheet.
My students are getting pretty good at alphabetical order so they should be able to complete this independently which is good because I have some assessing to do this week :) HOWEVER, I will be stressing neat printing, because some of them are so sloppy with their letter formation lately that it's driving me C-R-A-Z-Y!

You can download this activity for free at my TPT store.

There are only 3 days left of the blog hop.  Tomorrow you need to head over to see Teresa at 2nd Grade Pig Pen to pick up her freebie.  She just loves pigs so I can't wait to see what she comes up with!  Click on her cute button to head on over :-)

If you've missed any stops along the hop you can find them here:

Chinese New Year and Blog Hop Day 7

Sunday marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year.  It is a holiday we touch on in our classroom.  I found this YouTube video that has a children's song that includes each of the zodiac animals.  We'll be talking about the Year of the Snake and work together to figure out their zodiac signs.

I was born in the Year of the Dog.  Do you know your zodiac sign?  There are lots of websites to help you figure it out.  Even though my students were all born on 2006 that are not all the same sign which makes for interesting conversation about the calendar :-)

AND... don't forget that today is Day 7 of the For the Love of Teaching 14 Day Freebie Blog Hop.  Click on the picture to head over to see Merinda's freebie at Pirate Girl's Educational Invasion.

Corduroy Bear Booktivities

NOTE: this product has been updated.  See the new post HERE.

For a couple of months I was on the search for the perfect clipart to use with activities to go with one of my favorite books - Corduroy by Don Freeman.  One of my students asked me why I have so many copies of the book :)  I searched so many designers and then finally decided to have a custom design made.  It was worth every penny to have Jessica Weible at JW Illustrations design this little guy for me!!!
Here's a little picture with I took with Instagram of a few of the activities.

and a preview
A few of the activities included are: ABC order, sentence scramble, true / false story statements, noun / verb / adjective word sort, and a sentence type sort.  There's even a word search which would be perfect for early finishers and probably what I think is the cutest a color by vowels activity.  Click here to find this unit at my TPT store.

Now for some winners of my recent giveaway!
Congratulations Maria and Liz!  I just sent you an email with the math stations!

Don't forget about the ongoing Valentine Freebie blog hop.  Click the picture below to visit 2nd Grade Pad for your freebie today!

Many of you are shopping at the ongoing sale today over at TPT but for those of you spending some time this afternoon blog hopping you're in luck.  I'll send a copy of my new Corduroy unit to the first 2 followers who leave a comment on this post.  Don't forget your email!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!!
