Adding 10 and Counting on from 10

Adding 10 and Counting on from 10 ... there IS a difference!

Before Christmas break I was using one of the best selling math work stations in my guided math group when I thought "Why haven't I also created one that counts on from 10?????"  On the spot I came up with a new activity that approached it from a difference angle and the kids loved it.  I've turned that 'hand draw scribble' into a work station and have posted it in my store in case you have kiddos that can benefit as well.

What I have determined is that these two stations need to be used to teach adding 10 and counting on from 10 as two different skills.  The quick ability to do this will build mental math confidence.

Counting on from 10 is just that ... start with 10 and count on.
Adding 10 is just that ... start with a given number and add 10.

You can find both of these products in my TPT store HERE.

Giveaway ended  Tonight I will send a copy of BOTH of these learning packs to the first 3 people who comment on this post.  Don't forget your email!

Build a Potato Person

My first memory of Mr. Potato Head was when my younger brother received one as a gift. I remember trying to figure out how many combinations we could come up with to assemble him.   Then ... we discovered there was a Ms. Potato Head - oh the memories!!!

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon ... you guessed it Potato Head clip art!!!  My newest learning pack features eight math games that use potato body parts to Build a Potato Person.

Using the same potato pieces students can play eight different math games including:

Add 1
Add 2

Add 5
Add 10
Doubles
Doubles +1
Subtract 1

"I can" instruction cards are included for each game to build independence and make planning and differentiation a snap.

You can find this learning pack HERE at my TPT store.

As always, the first 3 people who comment on this post with their email will receive a copy.

Add or Subtract?

I've had requests to create more resources with the building block theme so here's my latest :)

To play this game students work with a partner or a small group and roll 2 dice, decide if they want to add or subtract the numbers and cover the result on their playing card. They need to do quick mental math and decide is adding or subtracting would benefit their game.

An "I can..." card is included to build student independence.
I have included both color and black and white options.  Given the state of my color ink I should have printed in black and white ... a trip to Staples is in my near future!

Lego pieces as playing pieces would be perfect with this theme :)

You can find this game HERE in my TPT store and it's part of the CYBER sale that ends at midnight.

As always, the first 3 people to comment on this post will get a copy :)

Add or Subtract Gingerbread Style!

Hi all!

I am a happy gal tonight ... you know that feeling of finishing report cards?  That's me, now just to finish parent teacher conferences next week and then it's all things Christmas!

With the extra time on my hands I can get some products that I've been using ready to post in my store.  First up ... a new math work station.

My students have gained a solid understanding of addition and subtraction, but are having a bit more trouble deciding which to use when given a choice. I created this math work station to help reinforce this skill.
To play this game students work with a partner or a small group and roll 2 dice, decide if they want to add or subtract the numbers and cover the result on their playing card.
An "I can..." card is included to build student independence.
I have included both color and black and white options.

Although the gingerbread theme is perfect for Christmas this product does not contain any reference to Christmas which may be important in some schools.

It won't take your students long to figure out if adding the dice together or subtracting the smaller number from the larger will benefit them.  Imagine the quick mental math happening!

You can find this resource HERE in my TPT store.

Adding 10

Hi all!

I hope that you are all enjoying your weekend!  The fall leaves are in full color right now making it my absolute favorite time of year!!

It's been awhile since I've posted anything new but love this new fall station that I just added to my store.

Students roll a dice, add 10 and cover.  I have included an apple ten frame counting on page to help with differentiation and an 'I can' student instruction card to help build independence.  All pages are in both color and black and white so you can just print and add to a math center.
In addition, I have included a roll, add 10 and color activity page. It also includes an 'I can' student instruction card. Again, the counting on ten frame could be used to help with differentiation.

You can find this activity HERE.  Please download the preview for a peek at everything that's included.

As always, I'll send a free copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.

Dinosaurs and an update :)

It was a dark and rainy day here in the east - a perfect day to do some housework and spend a little time on TPT :)
Today I finished up a Dinosaur measuring activity I was working on.  It can be used with either a non-standard ruler (2 sizes are included) or a standard ruler of either inches or centimeters.  However, before students measure the 12 dinosaur themed cards they need to make and record their estimate. You can find this math station HERE.
Then, I spent some time updating a product that I created in 2012.  Each time it sells lately I cringe a bit because as much as I love the game and use it in my classroom I've learned so much about graphics since then.  If you own the original, please head HERE to download your copy for free.
This game focuses on addition and subtraction facts to 20.

As you know, I love to give products away.  The first 3 people who comment on this post will receive both of these products :)

Have a great week everyone!  I only have 24 more school days left.  The countdown is on!!!

Add or Subtract?

Hi friends,
I've had a number of requests to create another addition or subtraction worksheet.  Sorry it's taken so long, but here you go!
Students must look at each number sentence and decide it an addition or subtraction sign is needed.  If you are putting it in a math station or setting it out for early finishers I have included an "I can" student instruction card.  Of course, it could also be used whole class.

You can download this freebie HERE from Google Docs.
Enjoy and Happy Monday!!!!!!!!!!!

Halloween Freebie!

I am lovin' this long weekend!! The fall leaves are gorgeous, just look at the scenery on my walk last evening ...
...so peaceful :)

On another note, while doing my October planning I was wishing that I had included a roll 3 dice and add activity (with tallies) in my Print, Roll and Play Halloween Dice Activities pack so I made one and thought I would offer it here as a freebie.  Click on one of the pictures below to download.
Note ~ this is NOT included in my pack so if you own it you'll want this one too.

Here's a  peek of the coordinating learning pack :)  You can read more about it HERE.

...and yes, I'm working on a Christmas edition :)
Happy Sunday!!

Missing Addends

Missing addends are a mystery for a few of students so I created a new math station to give them some extra practice.

Aren't these graphics by Graphics From the Pond just ADORABLE???????  I simply can't get enough of them :)

I simply can't get enough of them :)

To use this station students sort the 18 missing addend card onto 6 different numbered jars.  Of course, I included an 'I can' instruction card to keep students on task and a recording page to check for understanding.  I've created each page in both color and black & white to give you a 'save your ink' option.

Would you like a copy?  You can find it HERE at my TPT store.

As always, I'd like to give a few copies away.  The first 3 people who comment on this post will get one.

It's parent-teacher week for me so I'll probably be a little quiet over the next few days.  Have a great week!

Spring Fun!

It's snowing like CRAZY outside my window at the moment so it's the perfect time to dream of spring!  I thought I'd share a peek into my spring math stations :)

These kids were just too cute to resist!

I've included 5 math centers for skills I am working on now in both color

and black & white

Students will be doing some work with:
 hundreds, tens and ones

 counting by 10's

 missing addends

 greater than / less than

and adding 10

Each station includes an "I can..." card to keep students on task and hopefully decrease those taps on your shoulder with the "I don't know what to do" comment.

I have posted this unit HERE at my TPT store.  Tonight, before I head to bed I will choose 3 people to send a copy to.  Just leave a comment (with your email) and I will do a random draw.   I asked my daughter to pick 3 numbers and she has come up with 3, 4 and 8.  I'll be sending the unit shortly.  Thanks to everyone who left a comment - keep visiting I have new products on the go :)

Also, there are only a few days left to enter my Mrs. Wishy-Washy giveaway.  If you haven't entered, you will find the information HERE.

Enjoy your evening, I'll be back later to send this unit to the winners :)
