Insect Literacy Centers

I had an amazing four day weekend!  I could get spoiled with the extra couple of days :)  I used some of my time to organize my insect themed literacy stations and get them ready to post in my store.  Here's a little peek:

 Students will be working on:

compound words

non-fiction writing (I plan to have some non-fiction books handy for them to use for research),

r-blends,

word family work,

scrambled sentence sorting

and alphabetical order.

Earth Day Literacy Stations

Happy Sunday everyone! I just came home the sweetest surprise which every teacher will understand.  I had taken my daughter to the mall and left a pile (I mean huge pile) of papers on the counter in a 'to be laminated' pile.  When I came home, not only did my hubby laminate it all, but he cut it all out too.  Wahoo!  I owe him one ;)

Earlier today I posted my newest set of literacy work centers.  They have an Earth Day theme with the cutest graphics!

I LOVE printing my stations out in color

but sometimes I run a little low on ink so included them in black & white.

There's a flap writing book for students to write about the 3R's (reusing,, reducing and recycling),

a color by word family activity,

 sentences to unscramble,

 words to put in ABC order,

 pictures to sort according to their beginning digraph (ch, sh, th and wh)

and compound words to build.

At this time of year my students are so independent during literacy stations.  I LOVE when they are engaged in purposeful activities while I am doing guided reading!

Dental Health

Okay ... I admit it ... I'm a few weeks behind doing my Dental Health unit at school!! There are just not enough hours in the day to keep up!

Oh well, at least it's getting done :)

I made this alphabetical order (or ABC order as my kids call it) to use during literacy so I thought I'd share.

Easter Literacy Work Stations

Happy Monday everyone!!!!  I am SO.OVER.WINTER that I've started planning for Easter!!!  I know I'm a little ahead of myself, but this will give you lots of time to get ready too!!

I have my St. Patrick's Day Literacy Work Stations in my Daily 5 stations right now and when I rotate them I'm planning to put these ones in -

I've included 6 work stations in both

color

black and white

Your students will be busy with:

creating compound words,

creating a how-to interactive book about how to paint an Easter egg,

sorting long and short vowels,

unscrambling color words,

putting words in ABC (alphabetical) order

and unscrambling sentences.

The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear

Have any of you been as glued to the TV as much as I the past two weeks?  I have been watching the Olympics morning, noon and night and even have my students excited about it :)  Like our Olympians I strive for perfection and even thought one of my units at TPT has a rating of 4.0 I knew it wasn't my best so I have redone it while watching the Olympics.

In your class library do you have a copy of The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry and The Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood?  If so, you need to see this and if not that's okay too (I've explained below).

I loved many of the activities in this unit including inferring, mental image, antonyms, alphabetical order and sentence scrambles but really wanted to add a story retell rope.

Now I said that if you didn't have a copy of the book that it was not a problem and that's because I found a video on YouTube!!!!!!!  Even though I have the book I also show this :)

Planning for March

I love St. Patrick's Day for so many reasons.  First, I have some Irish in me - my paternal grandfather was from Ireland (miss you Grampy <3 ).  Second, it means spring is on the way (I've had enough snow for this year thank you!) Third, last year I celebrated the first arrival of my classroom leprechaun and the kids went crazy!

In preparation for St. Patrick's Day I have my literacy work stations ready to go!  You can find them HERE at my TPT store.

There are six activities included to keep your students engaged and learning including:

* how-to catch a leprechaun writing (flap book)

* long and short vowels

 * ABC (alphabetical) order

 * digraphs (ch / sh / th / wh)

* scrambled sentence sorting and

Bubble Fun!

Tired of snowy activities and cold weather?  How about some Bubble Fun?
I've been working on some new literacy center activities and have finally got them posted at my TPT store.

Here's a little peek:

Students will be doing:

 ABC order

 how to blow a bubble writing booklet

 comparing and contrasting bubblegum bubbles and bathtub bubbles

 working with plurals

and unscrambling /ow/ and /oa/ words.

Each center includes an I can.. card to build student independence and to keep them from tapping you on the shoulder to ask what to do :).  I have also included black & white options of each station.
