Rudolph Place Value

Hello!!!!!!!!!  I hope the fall is treating all of you well.  I might be on of the few, but I enjoy these dark, cozy evening sitting by the fire and puttering on my computer.

Just posted to my store an new Mystery Picture in time for your holiday planning.

Just like the others students are given the number of tens and ones and need to solve then find and color the number in the hundreds chart.   My students love when I print the 2 pages on one large 11 by 17 paper - they think they're working on a poster! LOL  You can find it HERE at my TPT store.

I have added this to my growing Mystery Picture Bundle.  So, if you won the bundle you already own this new picture and can download the update for free!

The bundle now has 31 pictures! Wowzers!!! You can find the bundle HERE at my TPT store.

I know many of you own the bundle, and you can get your copy for free, but if you don't and would like a copy of the Rudolph Mystery Picture I will send a copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post - don't forget your email!

Halloween Adding 10 and a freebie

Please read to the end for the freebie :)

Hello!!  I'm not sure about you, but I am AMAZED that we are only 8 days from Halloween!

In time for your planning I have added an Adding 10 Halloween themed math station to my store.

This math work station game focuses on the skill of adding ten. Students roll a dice, add ten and then cover the number.

I have included an "I can..." student instruction card to build student independence. To help a couple of my students who need the extra support I have added included a page with a pumpkin ten frame. I will encourage them to say the number on the dice then use the ten frame to count on to get to their number.

I have also added a Roll, Add 10 and Color activity complete with an I Can... card.

Since I struggle with never have enough colored ink, both color and black and white versions are included.  You can read more about this HERE.

I've also been working on greater than, less than and equal so here's a little freebie for you.  You can download a copy by clicking on the picture below.

This can be easily differentiated by using different sided dice or rolling more than one.  There is also an 'I can" card included.  I use the student 'I can" card in a math station but this week I am using this as a whole class activity and will put the instructions on the Smartboard so everyone can see it.

As always, I'll send a copy of my newest learning pack to the first 3 people who comment on this post. :)

Happy October!

Hi all!
Well we've done it! We have survived back to school!  My class has settled into routines and expectations allowing me to have a little energy when I get home!  That should give me some 'get up and go' to finish up some products I've been working on.

First up ... a freebie to apologize for my absence!

This Halloween writing freebie includes a writing brainstorm web, a choice of two writing line styles, a self-check rubric and a word list with pictures.
You can find this HERE at my TPT store.  All I ask in return, if you download it and like what you see please leave me feedback in my store - it's your feedback that encourages me to create!

I'll be back in a few days!

Reading Strategies

Like many of you, I've used Animal Reading Strategies in my classroom.  I needed half page posters to hang in my classroom ... wall space is limited and I REALLY wanted to use these adorable graphics from The Pink Cat Studio so made some for myself.  I was so thrilled with how they turned out that I created even smaller ones to have on hand on my guided reading table.  I may put them on a ring ... I've yet to decide.

Anyhow ... since I had them made, I thought I'd offer them to you as a free download.  You can find them HERE in my TPT store.

Enjoy!

Build a Potato Person

My first memory of Mr. Potato Head was when my younger brother received one as a gift. I remember trying to figure out how many combinations we could come up with to assemble him.   Then ... we discovered there was a Ms. Potato Head - oh the memories!!!

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon ... you guessed it Potato Head clip art!!!  My newest learning pack features eight math games that use potato body parts to Build a Potato Person.

Using the same potato pieces students can play eight different math games including:

Add 1
Add 2

Add 5
Add 10
Doubles
Doubles +1
Subtract 1

"I can" instruction cards are included for each game to build independence and make planning and differentiation a snap.

You can find this learning pack HERE at my TPT store.

As always, the first 3 people who comment on this post with their email will receive a copy.

Rainbow Candy Investigations

Are you looking for a quick, engaging science activity for your students?  If so, you'll love this!

This quick science experiment happens in minutes and provides students with lots to write about.

Using a package of rainbow candies (I used Skittles) arrange them on a plate.  Add water and VOILA watch the magic happen!

I have included two templates that work for my outcomes and students but have also included an editable Powerpoint in the download.
Three recording options are included - no lines, lines and primary lines.
Differentiation will be a snap!

The page could also be glued into an interactive science notebook.

You can learn more about this in my TPT store HERE.
As always, I'll send a copy of this new learning pack to the first 3 people who comment on this post.  Don't forget your email!

Aargh! Getting Ready for Pirate Day!

Last year Talk Like a Pirate Day snuck up on me - not this year!  I'm planning ahead!!

First up - a morning message to get the day started.  Students will solve the message using a secret pirate code.  I may put it on the Smartboard and solve as a class, but perhaps I'll print them each a copy.  Once I meet my new class I'll decide.  You can download a copy here for FREE.  :)

Then, we'll do some pirate talking with this YouTube video.  Students will have a chance to learn some pirate sayings.

I've created a new math activity that I think will become a go-to math station.
I created my game board on a remnant two by four to resemble a plank, but paper would work too!  This race to the treasure game will have students trying to walk the plank.  It is easy to differentiate with dice, spinner or even a deck of cards.  The possibilities are endless once the game is created!  Really, who can resist these pirates?!?
You can find this activity HERE in my TPT store.

I'll also be using my Tens and Ones Mystery Picture for some place value practice that you can learn more about HERE.

Then there's this song for talking like a pirate ...

I have created a new Pinterest board to pin more ideas for Talk Like a Pirate Day.  You can follow me on that board HERE

Did you know that Talk Like a Pirate Day has been celebrated on September 19th since 2002?

As always, I'd love to give away 3 copies of my newest learning pack (Walk the Plank Math Game).  I'll send a copy to the first 3 people who leave a comment with their email on this post.

Gummy Bear Investigations

Two posts in one week? I'm on a roll!!

Just posted in my store ...

If you enjoyed my Candy Cane, Candy Corn and Apples and Pumpkins Investigations, then you and your kiddos will enjoy this yummy activity.
I soaked gummy bears in water, salt water and vinegar and made observations.  You can use these liquids or choose your own.  Students will then write (or draw) their observations in a flip book.
The vinegar bears were GROSS when left overnight - just saying!

I've included an EDITABLE version so you can make the activity fit your curriculum, teaching style and student needs.

You can find it HERE in my TPT store.

As always, the first 3 people who comment on this post with your email will receive a copy so let's see who's on their computer on this summer day!!    That was fast!!  If you missed out, I have it marked down half price for 24 hours. :)

Scarecrow Math - 8 games in 1!

It seems like summer has just begun, but I'm already thinking about back to school.  Did I mention that I agreed to take a students intern, then found out that due to the needs on my classlist I will be having two (yes two) teacher assistants.  At first I thought, 'We're going to be tripping over each other', but now I'm thinking, 'Wow, we should be able to accomplish a lot!'.  We shall see!!

Anyway, are you enjoying your summer?  I am LOVING this weather and on the weekend saw Zac Brown Band in concert!!!  It was an AMAZING show ... it will be hard to top that show ... EVER!

Since I returned I've finished up a learning pack that I've been working on.  Eight math games played with a single dice.  You prepare it once, then use it over and over!!  It all starts with the adorable scarecrow pieces by Creative Clips.

Print and cut out the scarecrow pieces, print one of the 8 'I can' cards, add a dice and voila! Ready to go.
Easy to differentiate - you choose the outcome from the 8 included.
Roll and Count
Add 1
Add 2
Add 5
Add 10
Doubles
Doubles +1
Subtract 1

You can find this learning pack at my TPT store HERE.

As always, (and I know it's been awhile!) the first 3 people who comment on this post with their email will receive a copy.

St. Patrick's Day freebie

Hi all!
I hope you all been well.  I know that I promised to post more often, but man oh man ... life gets busy and the days zoom by!

In the last couple of months I have become Fitbit addicted!  Seriously!!  Do any of you wear one?  If so, I'd love to hear any tips or tricks from you.  Back in January I bought a Charge 2 which I LOVE, then a few weeks later a picked up a Flex 2 because it's smaller, waterproof and I could wear it on the days I didn't want the larger one or was afraid to ruin it.  I've been competing with a few friends at work and it keeps me motivated to keep moving.  Then there are those badges - who knew that I'd be motivated by them and I had no idea how many times a day I ran up and down the stairs!!

Back to business ... I've been doing some lesson planning in preparation for St. Patrick's Day. I have my leprechaun door up and ready for tomorrow and am excited to see what the week will bring.  I have my St. Patrick's Day literacy stations ready to go and my dice games will be put to good use as well.  If interested, you can see more of my St. Patrick's Day activities by clicking on St. Patrick's Day on the menu at the right. ------>

Now for my new freebie. I just loaded a St. Patrick's Day themed number maze to my store.  You can find it by clicking HERE.

Enjoy and I'll visit soon - I promise!!
