Long Vowels Flip Book

Vowel Flip Books part 2 :)

I've posted a Long Vowels Flip Book and am thrilled with how it turned out!!!!

There are 25 picture cards with a long vowel sound missing.  Students need to print the missing letter, color the picture (might as well put in some fine motor skill practice!) and glue them onto the correct page of the book.

I've included 2 different options for creating the book.  One has you photocopy each page then have students assemble, the second uses less photocopies.  Make sense? Maybe this will help:

I have included an I Can student instruction card to go with each choice making it perfect for a word work station.

You can find this HERE at my TPT store and the Short Vowel version HERE.

I'll send a copy of the Long Vowels pack to the first 2 people who comment on this post.  As well I'm giving away a copy on my Facebook page.

I've included 2 different options for creating the book.  One has you photocopy each page then have students assemble, the second uses less photocopies.  Make sense? Maybe this will help:

I have included an I Can student instruction card to go with each choice making it perfect for a word work station.

You can find this new pack HERE at my TPT store.  Next on my to-do list - you guessed it I need to finish up my long vowels book :)

Planning for March

I love St. Patrick's Day for so many reasons.  First, I have some Irish in me - my paternal grandfather was from Ireland (miss you Grampy <3 ).  Second, it means spring is on the way (I've had enough snow for this year thank you!) Third, last year I celebrated the first arrival of my classroom leprechaun and the kids went crazy!

In preparation for St. Patrick's Day I have my literacy work stations ready to go!  You can find them HERE at my TPT store.

Here's a little peek:

There are six activities included to keep your students engaged and learning including:

* how-to catch a leprechaun writing (flap book)

* long and short vowels

 * ABC (alphabetical) order

 * digraphs (ch / sh / th / wh)

* scrambled sentence sorting and

* plurals (photo to follow - I'm sure I took one :)

If you're getting ready for St. Patrick's Day and would like a copy you can find it at my TPT store, but I'll send a free copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.  In your comment please tell me a skill you will be covering soon that you'd like to see included in my next set of literacy stations.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Penguins anyone?

I don't know about any of you, but I am so ready for Christmas vacation!  My class seems to have forgotten how to listen and sit still - oh my!  I'm sure tomorrow will be better!  Right?

I am so excited for vacation that I have been planning for January and getting things organized.  I've just posted a literacy word work station with long vowels.  I was trying to decide on a theme when I came across some adorable penguins by Graphics From the Pond.  I mean really ... who could resist these cuties?
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Penguin-Long-Vowel-Sorting-Station-1016056

To use this activity students will sort 30 penguin cards with pictures onto sorting mats.  Since I am always busy doing guided reading while students are completing this I have included a recording sheet.  It helps me not only check for understanding but know they were on task.  I have also included an "I can..." student instruction card to keep those "I don't know what to do" comments to a minimum.

And, since ink has gotten to be so expensive :( I have included the entire product in color and black and white.

You can find this word work activity HERE at my TPT store.

As always, I'll send a copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.  Don't forget your email!

Christmas Short Vowel Sorting Station

I am into my Christmas shopping, decorating and of course planning.  With all the excitement I try to keep the routine, yet add in some festive fun.

I plan to use this word work station for a few of my literacy groups to reinforce short vowels.
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Christmas-Short-Vowel-Sorting-Station-984194

There are 30 light bulbs and ornaments that need to be sorted onto 5 sorting mats (one each for 'a', 'e', 'i', 'o' and 'u').  I have included an "I can..." student instruction card to keep students on task and a recording sheet for you to monitor their work.  The entire station in included in both color and black and white.

I have just posted this at my TPT store.  You can head over there by clicking HERE.

I'd love to help with your December planning so I'll send a copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.

Happy Monday!

I Spy 2 Sounds of Y

I'm excited to say that I just posted my most recent I Spy word work activity!  We all know that as a vowel Y can be one of those tricky letters.  Sometimes it sounds like long e and other times like long i.  In this activity students need to get their magnifying glasses out and search for words then decide which sound they hear.
As you can see there are four pictures.  Hidden in each picture are 10 teeny tiny words.  Five have the long e sound (as in happy) while the others have the long i sound (as in my).  I have included a choice of 3 recording sheets to allow for easy differentiation.

My students get so excited when I get the magnifying glasses out.  I hope yours do too.  This activity is available at my TPT store.
As usual, I'll send a copy to the first 2 followers who comment on this post.

Happy searching!!!
