I Spy Color Words

If you're reading this you survived Halloween!!!  Congratulations and best of luck as we all venture into tomorrow.  On the bright side it'll be Friday and the weekend will be in sight!

I have a few students who are really struggling with color words and since I know they love to use magnifying glasses I came up with a new I spy activity for them to work on.
You'll notice I used my bear clip art and buttons so I can also tie it in with my Corduroy unit.  If you haven't seen my Corduroy unit you can read about it here.

Students will use a magnifying glass to find teeny tiny words on a button and color the button to match.  I have included an "I can..." student instruction card in both color and black and white to help keep students focused.  There is also a color word anchor chart (again with color and black and white options).  If you choose to print this in black and white you'll need to color the buttons yourself.

You can find this product at my TPT store by clicking here.  It's also been added to my I Spy Bundle

so if you already own it head on over and redownload it from your purchases for free.

If you do not have the bundle and would like a copy leave a comment.  I'll send a copy to the first 3 people who leave a comment on this post.

Good luck tomorrow as we get through the day after Halloween!!!

Gingerbread Mystery Picture

With less than 2 months until Christmas I must say that I'm starting to plan ahead.  Between now and then we have report cards and parent teacher conferences so it's never too early :)

I've created a new Mystery Picture with a  gingerbread theme. (I can almost smell them!)

This activity is similar to my others and have been added to the bundle which keeps growing and will keep your students busy throughout the year.  If you own the bundle you can head on over to your purchases and download the revision with the new one added :)

The gingerbread mystery picture is on a 120 chart and requires students to solve the tens and ones to figure out the number before they color.

4 tens 3 ones 43

You can find the Gingerbread picture here and the bundle here

If you think you'll use the Gingerbread Mystery Picture leave a comment here.  I'll send a copy to the first 3 people who leave a comment with their email.

Trick or Treat Blog Hop!

Ghouls and goblins and ghosts, oh my! Trick or treat! This is Lesley Boatright, AKA Practice Makes Perfect playing a little Halloween trick on you by posting on Teach with Laughter's blog. I'm so tricky like that.

Several bloggers at {The Teaching Tribune} have joined together for this Trick or Treat Blog Hop. You will find more tricks as well as plenty of treats as you hop from door to door.

I have an awesome treat for you today!  It's called number brew, and my kids  have had so much fun using it in the class.  Everyday they ask me, "Are we going to play number brew today?"

I made the first set for to use in class and so you can see how the game works, but this is a totally versatile activity that you can use over and over.  Need to practice subtraction?  No problem.  Program the worksheet for differences that equal a certain number, or, as I did, differences  greater than a certain number or less than a certain number.

Practicing multiplication, division, even/odd numbers, addition to 20, whatever!  You decide which skill you want to focus on on a particular day, program the worksheet for the "rule," make the matching cards, get out your Halloween container, and you have an instant, fun math practice game ready to go.

You can get this exclusive blog hop freebie by clicking on the color picture of the cover up above.  So there you have it, my treat for you!  I hope the treat was worth the trick!

Are you ready to head next door and see what tricks and treats the next two bloggy buddies are up to? Just "knock" on the door below and enter -- if you dare!

Happy Halloween everyone!!!!

I Spy Bossy 'e' Update

I have a new "I Spy" in the works and I hope to have it ready to post this weekend.  I am really excited about this one and think you will be too!

Until then, I've added an "I can..." instruction card to my I Spy Bossy 'e' activity so if you own it be sure to head on over to TPT and re-download for free.

If you haven't seen it before here's what it includes:
You might call it bossy or magic or silent. Whatever you call it students will enjoy using a magnifying glass to search for teeny tiny bossy e words hidden in I spy pictures. Each dinosaur themed picture contains 10 bossy e words and for an added challenge, 5 words that have the letter e but not a bossy e. I have included three different recording sheets for you to choose from. This is a perfect engaging activity for students to use as a work work station.

I know it's not a new item in my store, but if you don't have a copy and would like one, I'll send one to the first 3 people who comment on this post.

Have a great night everyone!

Turkey Math Station

Last week I posted about our water woes in our basement.  After a week of chaos I'm thrilled to say the rebuilding is done - YAHOO!  My hope is the painting gets done this week and the floors laid.  Fingers crossed that my wish comes true.  I'm tired of living in disorganization - it's driving me CRAZY!!

My students have enjoyed the Pumpkin Sort I blogged about last week and seem to have a good handle on the number 10 so I thought it was time to move along.  I created a station that requires students to think about numbers and show their understanding for the number 12.

At the center students will sort cards into three groups.
less than 12
equal to 12
more than 12
The sorting cards have dice, tallies, an addition sentence and ten frames.  These turkeys are soooo cute in color, but ink is expensive so have included the option of black and white.  An "I can..." card is included to keep students focused and recording sheet to check for understanding and to be sure they were 'working' at their station.

You can find the Turkey Sort here and the Pumpkin Sort here at my TPT store.

As always when I post a new product, I'd like to give a few away.  I'll send a copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.

Have a great week everyone!

I Spy Halloween Update!

Happy October!!

Just a quick post from me tonight :)

Since last Halloween I have begin using "I can..." instruction cards in my literacy stations so I thought it was time to add them to my "I Spy Halloween" word work activity.

If you already own it you can head on over to TPT and redownload for free.

Students use a magnifying glass to find teeny tiny Halloween words and then record them.  There is a choice of a recording sheet depending on if you want your students to use one picture or all four.  I print one set of the color pages for students to share and a recording sheet for each child.

This activity is also included in my "I Spy" bundle so if you are looking for a variety you should check it out.

I know some of you own my Halloween I Spy activity, but if you don't I'd love to send a copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.

Have a super night!!
