I Spy Math Words

My newest product creates a problem.  At least it's a good problem :)

My problem will be deciding if I want to use this in a math work station basket or during Daily 5.
Integrating subjects across the curriculum is easy to do with this activity.

Students will use a magnifying glass to search for teeny tiny math words hidden in pictures. The words include number words (zero to twenty) and other words such as odd, even, add, subtract...). Each of the four pictures has 10 hidden words.

I have included a choice of 2 different recording sheets to help differentiate for your students.  Each one comes with an I can students instruction card.

To use this activity I print one copy of each of the four hidden pictures in color and one I can card to be shared at a station. Each child needs a copy of the black and white recording sheet.

This activity is available at my TPT store and is also available in my I Spy Bundle.

I'll send a copy of I Spy Math Words to the first 3 commenters on this post.  In your comment please let me know when you think a good idea is to use this activity.

    1. This can be used in teaching concept lesson/vocabulary math words for odd/even; add/subtract - present words on flashcards, then as a activity, present the I Spy Math Words

  2. I think it is definitely a good problem that you have. If the decision were up to me, I would introduce this activity during the daily 5 activities. I know that the words are math related, but the students are finding the words, reading them, and on one sheet writing a sentence with the words. The students are probably already familiar with using these types of activities in their daily 5 work and they would be able to do the station without problem. I would also ask myself another question: Do I want the sentences the students write to be math related? For example one student may write "The number five is odd." but another student may write, "Mrs. Hood has an odd cat." I would make sure that my expectations for these sentences were clear to myself and to the students before I asked them to complete this station. They may not think about the sentence needing to be math related otherwise.

  4. I would use the activities in math centers and really emphasis the importance of the literacy of numeracy, which is something students struggle with.
