Scooping up some digraphs!

How are your students doing with digraphs?  Many of my students have a really good handle on them - they can read them, sort them and even use them properly in their writing.
Then there are the rest... I'm trying everything I can think of to give them practice.  They have enjoyed both my popcorn sort and my bubblegum sort but I needed something new.  For days I tried to think of a new theme for an activity that I could pull put again and again.  Then it came to me ...ice cream!!!
While making this on the weekend I had to go and buy some ice cream - yummy!
This activity has students sorting picture cards onto 4 different ice cream cones.  The cones are labeled with /ch/, /sh/, /th/ and /wh/.

I have included with a color and black & white copy.  However, when you see these ice cream scoops you're going to want them in color - ADORABLE!
There is an I can... card included and a recording sheet to check for understanding.
You can find this activity HERE at my TPT store.  As always I'd like to give away a few copies to those of you who visit me here.  The first 5 people to leave a comment will get a copy :)

Enjoy the rest of your week :)

100th Day Fun!

We're creeping up on the hundredth day.  It's hard to believe that I have been with this group of firsties this long.  Time's just flying!  Our school is canceled today for bad weather and that means that the 100th day is now going to fall on Valentine's Day.  Yikes!!!  How am I going to fit it all in?  I'll need to hope for another snow day just so that doesn't happen!!

In honor of the hundredth day how about a freebie?  I have not posted it in my TPT store, its just for those of you who take the time to visit me here :)

I have not written on any of the pages that this is for the 100th day so you'll be able to use it any day you are working with numbers to 100.

Students either work independently or with a partner to fill in 100 circles.  I have included two different I can... student instruction cards - one for using a bingo dabber (fun stuff!) and one for crayons (when you just don't feel like it's a dabbing day!).  The choice is yours!  Click on one of the pictures or HERE to download our copy.

This activity combines 2 of my favorite units:
100 chart puzzle and activities and

bingo dabber math fun!

Leprechaun Tricks!

Maybe it's because I'm looking forward to spring ... maybe it's the Irish in me ... I'm not sure ... but I have this strange desire to get my St. Patrick's Day items ready.

I spent some time doing a revamp of my Tricky Leprechaun Mirror Words activity.  I've jazzed up the cards, added an I can.. student instruction card and included a black & white option.

Here's the scenario - tell your students that the leprechaun has shown up and printed the St. Patrick's Day words in mirror image.  The only way to read them is to use a mirror.  Their job is to use a mirror (I picked up a few at the dollar store) to read the words and record them.
MAGIC!

Your students will find this change to their word work a treat and be proud of themselves for outsmarting the leprechaun!!

If you already own this St. Patrick's Day activity just head on over to TPT to redownload.  You can find it HERE at my TPT store.

I'll send a copy of this unit to the first 3 people who comment on this post :)

Bubble Fun!

Tired of snowy activities and cold weather?  How about some Bubble Fun?
I've been working on some new literacy center activities and have finally got them posted at my TPT store.

Here's a little peek:

Students will be doing:
 ABC order

how to blow a bubble writing booklet

comparing and contrasting bubblegum bubbles and bathtub bubbles

 working with plurals

and unscrambling /ow/ and /oa/ words.

Each center includes an I can.. card to build student independence and to keep them from tapping you on the shoulder to ask what to do :).  I have also included black & white options of each station.

You can find this unit at my TPT store HERE. It is listed for half price for the first 24 hours.  I will also send a copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Valentine's Day Adding 10

What is it with adding 10 to a number that is so easy for some students but so difficult for others?   I've been using my Snowy Fun Adding 10 activity in my math work stations this rotation but needed another to add in when I change them up next week so thought it was time for something with a Valentine's Day theme.

Just posted at my TPT store is Valentine's Day Adding 10.

Students roll a dice, add 10 and cover the number on their card.

Even though I wish printer ink was cheap and lasted forever, I realize that it doesn't so have included all pages in both color and black & white.  Print it out on pink paper and it'd be perfect for Valentine's Day!

In addition to the I can... card which I always add to my stations I have included a 'counting on' card.  I will not be using it with all my students but to help differentiate for those having a little more difficulty.

For those of you who are off tomorrow enjoy your day and think of those of us who are spending our day with our sweeties!

I'll send a copy of this activity to the first 5 people who comment on this post.

Have a great Monday tomorrow!

Ahoy Mateys!

Ahoy mateys!

First, congratulations for almost making it through the first week back!  Not an easy task!!!

Second, do your students like pirates?  Mine do and I think they'll go crazy over my latest mystery picture!
(You'd laugh if you knew how many attempts it took me to make this look like a pirate.  After each attempt I asked my daughter what she thought and I kept tweaking until I got her approval :)

Here's a little peek at the student pages.  I always copy the 2 pages together on an 11 X 17 paper.  They think it's 'cool' to work on a poster. :)

Just like my other tens and ones mystery pictures students need to figure out the number before they color.

6 tens 5 ones 65

I've posted this HERE at my TPT store and added it to my ever expanding bundle which now has 22 pictures.

I'd love to send a copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.  I'm trying to think of an idea for my next mystery picture.  In your comment tell me one that you'd like to see.

Have a great day tomorrow - the weekend is almost here!!!!!!

Hundreds Chart Puzzle and Activities

I am super, duper excited about my most recent update!!!!!!  I have completely updated my Hundreds Chart Puzzle and Activities unit at my TPT store.

I think (hope) my kids are going to love these activities!
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Hundreds-Chart-Puzzle-and-Activity-197487

My students love to build hundreds charts.  I keep a few on my shelf and they even choose to build them during indoor recesses.  This unit includes black and white pieces so you can copy them on colored cardstock and activities for them to do with the puzzle.
Hint: copy each chart on different colored paper to help keep them separate :)

 I have also included:
- a complete hundreds chart for those students who need to refer to it for building their own.
-a recording page which has students fill in missing numbers on a hundreds chart (an I can student instruction card is included)
-two recording pages of 'fractured' hundreds chart pieces (an I can student instruction card is included)
-a race to 100 activity to be done independently or with a partner (an I can student instruction card is included)
-a recording page to record the class times of how long it took each student to build it (an I can student instruction card is included)

Although these activities are perfect for the 100th day of school I did not include that it any of the graphics. I wanted to be able to use these activities throughout the entire year.

This unit is available at my TPT store.  If you already own it head on over to redownload from your purchases.  I'll also send a copy to the first 3 commenters on this post.

Happy Saturday!!!!!

I Spy Math Words

My newest product creates a problem.  At least it's a good problem :)

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/I-Spy-Math-Words-1039275

My problem will be deciding if I want to use this in a math work station basket or during Daily 5.
Integrating subjects across the curriculum is easy to do with this activity.

Students will use a magnifying glass to search for teeny tiny math words hidden in pictures. The words include number words (zero to twenty) and other words such as odd, even, add, subtract...). Each of the four pictures has 10 hidden words.

I have included a choice of 2 different recording sheets to help differentiate for your students.  Each one comes with an I can students instruction card.

To use this activity I print one copy of each of the four hidden pictures in color and one I can card to be shared at a station. Each child needs a copy of the black and white recording sheet.

This activity is available at my TPT store and is also available in my I Spy Bundle.

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/I-Spy-Bundle-690442

I'll send a copy of I Spy Math Words to the first 3 commenters on this post.  In your comment please let me know when you think a good idea is to use this activity.

I Spy Valentine's Day Update

Happy New Year!
I hope the new year treats you well with health and happiness!!!!

While continuing with my back to school planning I realized that I needed to update my I Spy Valentine's Day unit.  I've made it a little more 'printer friendly' and added "I can..." student instruction cards.
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/I-Spy-Valentines-Day-Words-473775

I use this activity during my literacy stations.  I print one copy of each of the four colored pictures for the group to share and a recording sheet for each student.  I have included two different recording sheets to help you differentiate for your students.
You can find this activity at my TPT store by clicking HERE.  It is also available in my I Spy Bundle.

As always, I'll send a copy to the first 3 people who comment on this post.

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
