All new...

I feel like an author who just finished a trilogy.  I've been working away at completing 3 different insect themed literacy products and finally have the third one ready to list in my store.

It's an insect themed I Spy that focuses on word families.  To use this station students use a magnifying glass to find teeny tiny word family words hidden on four pages. Each page has two word families. The word families used are ack/ake, in/ine, at/ate, ell/ill. I have included blends and digraphs with the words. Students record the words on the recording page. An 'I can' student instruction card is included to keep students on task and just in case you want to save your ink I have added each page in black & white.

With a heavy heart

For the past 2 days I have been trying to think of a way to say goodbye to a dear bloggy friend.  I started this post a few times but just could not put into words how saddened  I am.  Although I never had the pleasure of 'meeting' Teresa in person she became a bloggy friend and an inspiration.  Unfortunately, she lost her courageous battle to her health issues earlier this week.

Teresa was the teacher behind 2nd Grade Pig Pen and the wonderful teaching resources in her TPT store.  She loved life and poured her heart into her everything she did.  Today please join me and my bloggy friends and say a prayer for Teresa and her family.

Rest in peace sweet friend <3

Insect Literacy Centers

I had an amazing four day weekend!  I could get spoiled with the extra couple of days :)  I used some of my time to organize my insect themed literacy stations and get them ready to post in my store.  Here's a little peek:

 Students will be working on:

compound words

non-fiction writing (I plan to have some non-fiction books handy for them to use for research),

r-blends,

word family work,

scrambled sentence sorting

and alphabetical order.

More Mirror Words and a freebie!

Did you miss me?  Between parent-teacher, two teenagers and a little playground injury I feel as if I have been neglecting my little blog.  Well, I'm back (enjoying the long weekend) and have brought you a freebie and a peek at my latest set of mirror words.

First for the freebie.  I have a set of insect themed literacy stations on the go (hopefully completed soon) and made this listening center response page to use at the same time.  Click HERE to download your copy for free.

My students have absolutely LOVED using mirrors to solve my Leprechaun and Easter mirror words so I made an insect themed activity to use in one of my literacy stations.  It could be used as a write the room or the cards can be left in the center for students to stay in one place.

Here's a little peek:

As you can see I have included 12 words for students to 'solve' and a choice of two recording pages.  This will help with your differentiation planning.  Each page has an 'I can' student instruction page and all pages are included in black & white to help you save your ink.  There is very little prep - just cut the 12 word cards apart :)

Missing Addends

Missing addends are a mystery for a few of students so I created a new math station to give them some extra practice.

Aren't these graphics by Graphics From the Pond just ADORABLE???????  I simply can't get enough of them :)

To use this station students sort the 18 missing addend card onto 6 different numbered jars.  Of course, I included an 'I can' instruction card to keep students on task and a recording page to check for understanding.  I've created each page in both color and black & white to give you a 'save your ink' option.

Wordless Wednesday!

Today I am linking up with my blogging friend Christina over at Second Grade Sugar and Spice.  She is hosting a brand new fun linky!

As she says, a picture can say it all!  Here's a picture of how I organize my literacy stations.  Students head on over and choose the basket they need where I keep everything organized.  (Okay, I'm not so good at the 'wordless' part - I'll need to work on that! :)

3D Shapes!

Are you teaching 3D shapes?  If so, I have put together a mini-pack of activities for my classroom that you might want to see. 

The cover is cute and colorful, but the pages on the inside are all black & white.  they are also no-prep and ready to use.  Each of the three activities comes with an 'I can" student instruction card so you can copy and put them right into your math tubs (or use as a whole class activity).

Here's what you'll find:

Spin a 3D Shape - Students spin the 3D shape spinner, then color a real life object on their paper.  Can be played individually or with a partner.

Tally It Up! - Students count the number of each shape, then tally and print the number.

Color by Shape - Using crayons or pencil crayons students use the shape code to color the picture.

I opened the PDF and used it to teach the activity whole class.

On a pity party note - Sadly, the picture below is not an April Fool's joke.  As you can see we gave up on shoveling the front step a couple weeks ago thinking it would melt by now.  Oh well, at least the sun is shining now!
